Marine watermakers

HP Watermaker Marine Desalination Systems

HP Watermaker reverse-osmosis systems turn seawater into fresh water for life on board. The range includes horizontal, vertical, modular and twin-unit configurations. Kitfix can help with installation planning, maintenance and parts enquiries, taking account of the space available on the vessel.

EQUIPMENT SYSTEMS

Systems and product families

The manufacturer’s yachting range includes horizontal SC and vertical V configurations, double arrangements, modular SC kits and the BiBi system. A vertical unit can help when floor area is limited; a horizontal arrangement may suit a longer machinery space. Double systems combine separate machines, with the manufacturer describing independent or simultaneous operation for applicable configurations. HP also offers a Part-Net interface for connection to selected chartplotter systems. Exact equipment, output and display compatibility depend on the installed model and electronics. Routine use involves more than the membrane: feed-water quality, prefilters, high-pressure pump, flushing, preservation and periods out of use all affect the service plan. Kitfix can help assess the installed configuration and the information needed for parts or maintenance.

01Horizontal SC and vertical V layouts

SC and V configurations address different equipment-room geometries. Compare the actual footprint, service-side access, filter removal path, pipe bends and membrane-vessel clearance before deciding which layout fits the vessel.

02Double and modular systems

The range includes twin-machine configurations and modular SC kits. The arrangement can affect plumbing, electrical load, seawater flow and maintenance isolation; use the diagram for the exact model when planning a refit.

03Controls and plotter connection

HP’s Part-Net accessory is described for integration with selected chartplotters. Connection depends on the installed watermaker and electronics, so record the plotter make and model, software version and interface hardware before planning an update.

SERVICE AND INSTALLATION

Planning service for your vessel

  1. 01

    Protect the intake and prefilters

Record the seawater intake arrangement, strainer condition, prefilter type and any sediment or biological fouling. Changes in feed water can affect production and filter service intervals.

  2. 02

    Track operation and preservation

Note run time, fresh-water production and quality, pressure readings, alarms, flushing and storage procedures. A unit left unused needs the preservation routine for its model and membrane.

  3. 03

Check space and electrical supply together

Measure the removal route for filters and membranes, not just the installed footprint. For double or modular systems, review seawater plumbing, brine discharge, power supply, ventilation and access to isolation valves.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions about this equipment

Should I choose the vertical V or horizontal SC model?

Choose from the available machinery-space geometry, filter and membrane service access, plumbing routes and electrical supply. A photo with measurements and the existing model details helps compare layouts.

Can the watermaker status appear on my chartplotter?

HP lists a Part-Net connection for selected plotter brands and systems. Confirm the exact watermaker model, plotter model and software, and interface hardware before assuming that a connection is supported.
