Gyro Stabilizers & Ride Control

Seakeeper Gyro Stabilizers

Seakeeper gyro stabilizers use a spinning flywheel and controlled precession to generate torque that counteracts vessel roll at anchor and underway. Installation above or below deck depends on the model, hull structure and available space. Kitfix provides installation solutions for yachts in Hong Kong, covering mounting foundations, equipment access, power and cooling requirements, as well as ongoing maintenance and repairs.

EQUIPMENT SYSTEMS

Systems and product families

Seakeeper offers multiple gyro models for different vessel applications. A gyro’s rotating mass counters roll through a controlled system mounted to the boat’s structure; it also needs suitable power, cooling and service access. For an existing yacht, the foundation, access route, enclosure, electrical supply and helm controls shape the refit just as much as the unit footprint. Planning around the exact model helps protect access for future inspection and component removal.

01Gyro stabilizer units

Mounted to the vessel structure, the gyro counters roll through its controlled rotating mass. Seakeeper offers several model families for different boat applications; selection should use the manufacturer’s vessel and product sizing information together with actual displacement, hull and operating profile.

02Displays and system controls

The helm display communicates unit state and operator controls. Existing displays, software and vessel electronics may differ, so compatibility should be checked against the current bulletin or wiring diagram for the specific gyro before changing a screen or control connection.

03New builds and refits

A new installation can be planned with the vessel structure and services from the outset. A refit must also account for current equipment, access routes and the condition of the existing foundation and connections.

SERVICE AND INSTALLATION

Planning service for your vessel

  1. 01

    Survey the installation space

Measure the unit footprint and access through hatches and corridors. Allow sufficient clearance around the installed unit for future maintenance, as specified in the model installation manual.

  2. 02

Check mounting foundations and installation requirements

Confirm the structural mounting arrangement, electrical supply and any required seawater cooling circuit from the model’s installation manual.

  3. 03

    Use the model-specific maintenance plan

The technical library lists maintenance plans and bulletins by product. Record the model, serial number, operating hours, alarm history and previous service actions before troubleshooting.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions about this equipment

How is the gyro different from Seakeeper Ride?

The Seakeeper gyro reduces roll at rest and underway. Seakeeper Ride is a separate product range from the same manufacturer: transom-mounted controllers reduce pitch and roll underway, but do not provide stabilization at rest.

How do I choose a gyro for my boat?

The right unit depends on more than boat length. Refer to Seakeeper's current sizing guidance and consider displacement, hull form, intended use, available space, mounting foundations and required services. Contact Kitfix for a vessel-specific assessment.

What information helps diagnose an alarm?

Provide the unit model and serial number, a photo of the exact display message, software or control version if known, operating hours, recent maintenance, and whether the alarm began after a service or electrical change. Preserve the message before cycling power.
